A "driven shoot" is a tradition of field sport in the United Kingdom where birds are driven to fly over the heads of shooters in the field. As an animal sanctuary, The Lodge at Blue Sky does not practice hunting of any kind, but we offer a "simulated driven shoot" where guests can learn the techniques involved in this tradition through the use of clay targets which imitate the flight of pheasants and partridges. The first half of the experience focuses on instruction using the Percy Stanbury method, followed by “Elevenses” and several simulated drives in the field. Elevenses is the customary practice of a midday elevated snack and beverage.
