AltaGracia Trails

  • Head out on our network of trails - five kilometers of winding and well-trodden paths to explore the wonders of the Costa Rican jungle. Through our forest, you’ll walk along the Calientillo River, over bridges, and off the beaten track with our Adventure Pathway. Great for kids (of all ages), these sidetracks are a welcome diversion and will keep your trail hike interesting and entertaining.

Los Tirrases

  • Set off on an energetic hike through the primary forest of Cedral Valley, bordering Chirripó National Park. Venture along wooded paths, surrounded by tall trees and along the ridge with views of the mountains and into the quaint town of Cedral.
  • Your walk culminates at a beautiful open garden, with every flower and fruit intentionally planted to attract specific species of birds, butterflies and mammals. Here you will have the opportunity to spot avian species from hawks and turkey vultures enjoying the thermals overhead to colorful tanagers and hummingbirds seeking their sweet nectar of the garden’s flowers. Enjoy an energizing snack in your peaceful surroundings, and return to the hacienda by car.

Cerro Lanoso

  • In the Talamanca mountain range, a magical and exclusive place exists, where nature has found the perfect conditions to create a blanket of colored moss that perfectly adorns the forest floor. Begin your scenic hike at Mora's Farm, where you will find a 4.5 km trail hike through fields and primary forest that will have you climbing 450 meters to the top of the mountain, which sits at 1,564 meters.
  • Departing the hacienda in the morning, you will arrive at Mora’s following a 30 minute drive into our neighboring valley of Cedral. Enjoy an energizing breakfast snack before heading out on the trail. A moderate hike which will keep your blood pumping and legs moving, the pinnacle of this journey is your arrival at the open moss field. This colorful natural cover cushions the ground and provides the perfect place to relax. Refuel and take in your surroundings, allowing the sounds, smells and sights of the forest to sink in.

Cloudbridge Nature Reserve

  • Enjoy an active hike in this extensive private nature reserve with well-worn hiking trails and plenty to discover, including incredible waterfalls, primary forest, mountain vistas, and wide range of flora and fauna. Located in the Talamanca Mountains, next to Chirripó National Park, Cloudbridge Nature Reserve stretches over an altitude differential of 1,000 meters (3,280 feet), allowing guests to climb to a maximum height of 2,600 meters (8,530 feet) at its peak.
  • Following a one-hour drive, you will arrive at Cloudbridge Nature Reserve, a biodiverse Cloud Forest, covering more than 280 hectares (700 acres). Since its beginning over 20 years ago, Cloudbridge has been dedicated to the conservation and reforestation of the cloudforest, returning nearly 90% of the land which today comprises the reserve from cattle pasture or cultivated land to rich and healthy forest and ensuring its preservation. Whilst Cloudbridge offers more than 6 kilometers of trails, your guided excursion will have you hiking for approximately 3 hours over 3 kilometers and visiting four different waterfalls. The moderate hike is circular, with only a small part of the trail repeated, and you will have the opportunity to observe many bird species. For lovers of hiking and nature, this hike is the perfect addition to your itinerary.

Roca de Nubes

  • An intense hike for true explorers, this high-altitude adventure sees you gaining close to 900 meters altitude over two kilometers. Starting early morning, drive up into the Cedral Valley to meet your starting point. From here, you’ll walk amongst the clouds, through thick primary forest and around large boulders.
  • To achieve the ultimate reward of reaching the mirador, you will need to test your own limits. When you reach the summit at 2,000 meters, you are treated to an unbelievable view. High in the mountains, you float above the clouds - giving true meaning to “Roca de Nubes.” Here, you’ll enjoy a mountain snack with incredible panoramic views. The way down sees you testing your balance, as your descent reveals a different challenge.

Cataratas Kilo

  • Venture to San Jeronimo where a world of natural wonders awaits. Following a one-hour scenic car journey, you will arrive for your adventure, which kicks off immediately with an active uphill hike. Although short, this steep walk will warm up your legs and work up your appetite as you arrive at the mountain cabin of the Fonseca Quiros family for a light breakfast snack to maintain your energy for the tailored hike to follow.
  • An area of immense natural beauty, Cataratas Kilo will introduce you to six magnificent waterfalls of crystalline waters over a 6 kilometer circular trail, boasting a variety of terrain and memorable views. The hike can be altered to suit differing needs, depending on how much you want to challenge yourself (and how close you want to get to the various waterfalls).
