Our History
A commitment to the land and its people
In the 1980’s, Mr. Alberto Volio purchased land to build his family’s dream vacation hom and subsequently fell in love with the landscape of the surrounding mountains and visualized an expansion of the home into multiple casitas that would make up a sprawling hotel, ultimately being transformed into the Hacienda AltaGracia as we know it today. Inspired by the environment - the lush forests of Costa RIca and its people’s pure spirit - AltaGracia seeks to honor its surroundings while bringing the defining features of its home to its guests. As part of the development of AltaGracia, 7,000 coffee trees were planted across 23 lots within the hacienda’s grounds. The creation of the coffee farm has united AltaGracia as a production family and allowed us to reflect the essence of Costa Rica through our coffee traditions.

The culinary experience at AltaGracia connects guests with the bounty, farmers and makers of the Talamanca Mountains with an emphasis on source-origin cuisine that pays tribute to local cuisine and traditions.
