The Experience
Woodblock printing is a culturally rooted technique involving the carving of a design into a wooden block, rolling on ink and then pressing the block onto another surface to create a custom pattern. This hands-on session provides guests the opportunity to learn about the woodblock printing art form from renowned local artist and Native American Jimmy Dean Horn. Using Horn’s collection of intricately hand-carved blocks as examples of ways to use personal stories and cultural roots to inspire creative expression, guests will design and print their own woodblock patterns, and will leave the experience with a one-of-a-kind keepsake commemorating their stay at the Lodge.

About Your Instructor
Jimmy Dean Horn, born in 1988, is a Chickasaw Nation artist based in Santa Fe whose life is a tapestry woven from two distinct worlds. Growing up in a military family, he moved from base to base across the U.S., experiencing the structured life of service. Yet, his Indigenous heritage remained a guiding force, shaping his perspective and fueling his creative expression. His artwork – spanning printmaking, stained glass and painting – explores the intersection of Chickasaw symbolism and Western iconography. Through bold imagery and layered meaning, Horn bridges the past and present, tradition and transformation, inviting viewers into a world where history and identity collide in striking visual narratives.
