Journey to the stars – Mailife

In the 2014 hit movie, The Hundred Foot Journey, Hassan Kadam (played by Manish Dayal) is an extraordinarily talented and largely self-taught culinary novice, learning his love of food at home from his mother and her secret case of hand ground spices. When she dies in a tragic accident, he and his family are displaced from their native India and settle in a quaint French village, where they decide to open an Indian eatery – one hundred feet across the road from a famed Michelin star French restaurant. Despite his non-classic training, Kadam’s culinary instincts and persistence eventually sees him working for the opposition and helps them to win its third Michelin star; the penultimate accolade for any fine restaurant.
