- Martiny’s, located in a historic carriage house in Gramercy, offers a meticulously curated cocktail experience. Co-founder and Beverage Director Takuma Watanabe has crafted a space where every detail—from the drinks to the design and hospitality—comes together with purpose. The bar, named after both Takuma’s favorite cocktail and sculptor Philip Martiny, blends the building’s 1800s charm with modern Japanese influences. Martiny’s signature cocktail, the Grand Martiny, reflects Takuma’s refined mixology style. In 2023, Martiny’s won Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar at the Spirited Awards, and in 2024, it was ranked No. 4 in North America’s 50 Best Bars and No. 24 in the World’s 50 Best Bars.
About Takuma Watanabe
- Takuma Watanabe, a Tokyo native, started his hospitality career as a barista before bartending at Code Name Mixology in Tokyo, where he was mentored by Shuzo Nagumo and Shingo Gokan. After moving to NYC, he became a partner and Beverage Director at Martiny’s. In 2024, Takuma opened L'Americana, an Italian-inspired bar, and Midnight Blue, a jazz bar in Gramercy. That same year, he won Bartender of the Year at the Spirits Business Awards and Best Bartender in North America at the Shaker Awards, and was named a semifinalist for the 2025 James Beard Awards for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service.
