About BOND
- The enduring vision at BOND— established in 1996 by H. William Harlan and founding winemaker Bob Levy—is to create a portfolio of wines that are ‘Grand Cru’ in quality, all under the aegis of one philosophy, one team, one mark. Sourced from select hillside estates throughout the Napa Valley, the Cabernet Sauvignon wines of BOND vividly convey the distinctive characters of their respective sites of origin.
- From the more than 100 vineyards with which the Harlan family and their winegrowing team have worked over the past four decades, they slowly and deliberately chose five properties. These vineyards became a part of BOND—their covenant and shared commitment to produce only the finest expression of the land.
About Amanda Harlan Maltas
- Born and raised in the Napa Valley, Amanda Harlan Maltas has been deeply immersed in the cultural, entrepreneurial, and philanthropic life of the region. Around the dinner table, discussions regarding the purpose and importance of creating, as a family, something that would last for generations was engrained in her. The family’s dedication to the community was another common theme. Auction Napa Valley, the area’s most impactful annual charitable endeavor, was held for 39 years at Meadowood Napa Valley, of which her father is Founding Partner.
- At six years of age, she discovered her passion for horses and dedicated herself to the discipline of Dressage, becoming an accomplished equestrian and a member of the U.S. Junior Olympic team.
- After earning a degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California, Amanda began her professional life at LVMH, where she broadened her knowledge of the international wine business. With a focus on the future as well as her family’s 200-year plan, Amanda worked harvest in the BOND cellar in 2014—an experience that marked the beginning of her commitment to the Harlan winegrowing domain.
- Today, Amanda brings a global perspective and a strong affinity for the community to her role as Family Director, developing the culture of and driving communications throughout the family’s businesses—particularly as the renewal of Meadowood Napa Valley begins, and The Napa Valley Reserve enters its third decade. Amanda currently sits on the board of Festival Napa Valley, Jameson Humane, The Equestrian Aid Foundation, and The Napa Valley Wine Writers’ Symposium; she is also the Founding partner and Chair of The Invictus Fund, NV.
- Amanda and her newborn son, Maximilian, reside in Rutherford, at the heart of the Napa Valley, as well as in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, where they share their home with Amanda’s husband, Jason Maltas, and two stepdaughters, Juliet and Scarlett.
About Max Kast
- Max fell in love with wine while studying history at the University of Montana. This love has led to over twenty years in the wine business. For more than a decade he honed his sommelier skills as Wine Director of two Relais & Chateaux properties, Triple Creek Ranch in Montana and The Fearrington House in North Carolina, helping the latter attain Grand Chef Relais & Chateaux, Forbes Five Stars, and Three Stars from The World of Fine Wines. Afterward he transitioned to the import side of the wine business working for the American firm Broadbent Selections as Director of Education.
- In 2018, Max passed the rigorous Master Sommelier examination, a title held by less than 300 people globally, in that capacity, he is also a frequent wine judge and lecturer. As Director of BOND winery in the Napa Valley, Max is honored to work with the Harlan family and represent the BOND wines throughout the world.
