Go There’s Nothing Sweeter Than A Summer Spent In Newport

My ideal day in Rhode Island starts with a morning hike spent amid nature at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. With 325 acres and seven miles of marked hiking trails, there are many routes to choose from but I always seem to opt for the Hanging Rock Trail. The route takes you through a tour of the natural landscape and opens up to beautiful rocks boasting a breathtaking view that reaches the ocean. Visit in autumn, and you will find the same spectacular vista colored in New England’s famous fall foliage. The trails close at 5:00pm, so save your sunset for Sweet Berry Farms— which takes me to my next Rhode Island must-do.

A three minute drive from Norman Bird Sanctuary is Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown, offering the perfect pit-stop to refuel after a day spend on the trails. Here, find seasonal fruits, vegetables, cut flowers, and a variety of specialty foods at the market, a farm-fresh menu at the café, or reconnect with nature while picking your seasonal fruit amid the 100 acres of farmland. End the day at the free Summer Concert Series, hosted every Tuesday evening in July and August. Promising an evening full of live music and delectable eats with the purchase of a dinner ticket, this is one of my favorite summer traditions. Remember to arrive early to claim a picnic table seat!Stories from The Vanderbilt
