Travel Tip Tuesday: Hostess Gifts that Travel Well

Sep 2, 2014

Next time you’re invited to stay with friends while traveling, don’t forget to show your appreciation by bringing along a gift for your gracious host. If you’re jet-setting to your destination, luggage space will be limited, so we’ve rounded up a few thoughtful gift ideas that pack easily, travel well and are sure to get you invited back:

  • Confections: Specialty chocolates, candies, and macarons are a decadent splurge for the host in your life with a sweet tooth

  • Wine: Do you hail from a winemaking region? If so, consider packing a bottle of your favorite pinot noir (just don’t forget to check your bag!)

  • Specialty & gourmet edibles: California pistachios, jams, olive oil, spices, Graber olives, or spiced pecans would make a delicious addition to any kitchen

  • Coffee & tea: Loose leaf tea in sachets or a unique locally roasted coffee that your host can’t find in his/her city

  • For the home: Shea butter guest soaps, herbal bath sets, or stylish, aromatic candles like those by Diptyque and Joe Malone

  • Gift card: Giving your host a gift card to his/her favorite restaurant is a thoughtful and suitcase-friendly way of expressing thanks

Lastly, for a gift that will be an experience shared among friends, why not memorize your favorite recipe and make a home-cooked meal for your hosts during your stay? We can’t think of a gift that travels better than that!
