SLEEPING INDIAN RANCH – A PRIVATE ESTATE AT THE GATEWAY OF COLORADO’S STUNNING SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS – INVITES OVERNIGHT GUESTS TO RETREAT TO THE GRANDEUR OF THE WEST

15,000-Acre Ranch Just Outside Telluride Provides Families and Groups Unparalleled Access to

    Completely Private and Pristine Wilderness

TELLURIDE, Colo. (October 29, 2018) –  This holiday season – and for the first time ever – Sleeping Indian Ranch, a private estate set on 15,000 acres, will be available for families and groups to book exclusively through Telluride’s Madeline Hotel & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection.

Nestled in a broad valley on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains, known as the “Gateway to the San Juan Mountains,” the showpiece 40,000-plus square-foot, seven-bedroom lodge will welcome families, weddings and corporate groups who dream of wide open spaces. Built in 1993 as a private family vacation estate, Sleeping Indian Ranch was designed by Douglas S. Ewing, FAIA and is an American Institute of Architects award-winning home. The largest post-and-beam log structure ever built evoking the arts and crafts movement, Sleeping Indian Ranch was inspired by the legendary great lodges of Yellowstone and Yosemite. This warm and comfortable home, which can sleep up to 16 guests, is a rare architectural masterpiece constructed with reclaimed logs from the 1988 Yellowstone fire some of which are up to 50 inches in diameter.

Upon entering the ranch gate, guests cross a magnificent stone and log bridge over the Uncompahgre River and approach a long meadow plateau lined with pine trees – the Sleeping Indian Ranch comes into view in its full majestic splendor, set against a background of tall peaks. From the towering log beams, dramatic iron chandeliers, 24-hour butler service, exquisite meals prepared by Madeline’s staff and unprecedented access to vast secluded wilderness, Sleeping Indian Ranch is the ideal escape to experience sophisticated, relaxed hospitality with spirited adventures of true Americana.

Located 47 miles northwest of Telluride and the Madeline Hotel, and just six miles southeast of Rideway, Sleeping Indian Ranch is situated in the unspoiled Cimarron Range – a haven where elk, deer, black bears and bald eagles grace the land and the blue Colorado skies. Guests are completely surrounded by sublime nature with stunning vistas of steep forested mountains and the cliffs of Cimarron Ridge and Chimney Rock. The pioneering spirit of the destination embraces guests with an aura of liberty, adventure and limitless creativity, while maintaining a sense of complete privacy.

“Sleeping Indian Ranch is a special place that allows family and friends to reconnect and share a passion for the great outdoors.” says Craig Reid, Chief Executive Office, Auberge Resorts Collection. “The ranch offers a chance to explore wildlife together, relish in the remarkable beauty of the majestic Rockies and even experience life on a working cattle ranch. We are excited to showcase Auberge’s renowned hospitality to guests who seek the distinct and inspiring experiences available only at Sleeping Indian Ranch.”

A private retreat intended for family getaways, intimate reunions, corporate groups and stunning weddings, Sleeping Indian Ranch marries the grandness of the west with all the desired conveniences, exquisite furnishings and personal high-touch service. Guests have the rare opportunity to escape the hustle and noise pollution of city life, and enter a place where the air is crisp and imagination is as boundless as the reigning big sky. The ranch invites travelers to marvel at the possibilities of its immense domain while sitting by the fire and sharing stories. As the seasons change, so does the spectacular views of brilliant fall color transitioning to snow-capped mountains, and spring foliage to the bright summer wildflowers. Activities include heli-skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, fly fishing, trap shooting, ATV riding, snowmobiling, hiking, and more.

Whether celebrating life’s simple pleasures such as sipping an aged bourbon on the patio terrace and bundling up under a fur-lined blanket while overlooking the grazing elk; or indulging in more extravagant displays such as romantic hot air balloon rides at sunset and dogsledding across the snowy fields, Sleeping Indian is an unrivaled place to create stories and memories alongside loved ones. After returning from an early hike or heli-ski excursion, savor a delicious lunch by Madeline’s executive chef in the grand dining room before heading off to the shooting range for target practice. A more intrepid experience can be had at 9,000 feet at the picture-perfect Elk Cabin, which used to house sheep herders and features intricate carvings from the 1930’s. A remote spot within the vast estate, the one-bedroom cabin is an unexpected spot amidst the grandeur of the San Jaun Mountains to enjoy a scenic lunch catered by the personal chef.

The interiors of Sleeping Indian are designed for groups to gather within a welcoming atmosphere. The centerpiece of the home is the Great Room, where logs of up to 50-inch diameter were used in the 38-foot high ceilings, creating one of the west’s most spectacular interior spaces. A cozy bar is crafted from Claro Walnut and creates the perfect ambience for libations and discussions next to matching walk-in stone fireplaces with 16-foot-long mantels.

Mealtime is a chance to gather in either the dining hall, which can seat up to 25 guests at a long table lit by custom bronze cast lighting fixtures, or outside on the terrace. A professional chef’s kitchen of over 2,000 square feet can handle any occasion, and a smaller family kitchen features a cozy dining alcove with fireplace. Additional luxurious amenities include a media room and cigar room, along with a three-room wine cellar of pure handcrafted limestone with tile vaulted ceiling and forged iron doors. Intimate dinners of six to eight can be held in the 3,000-bottle capacity cellar, guarded by a fifteenth century suit of armor.

When it’s time to retire after the bright stars come out, a Master Suite beckons with an added loft. Two additional suites include the Santa Fe Suite with an adjoining bedroom and loft; and the all pine Swiss Suite with a master bedroom, sleeping loft, kitchen and children’s bunkroom. Three additional guest bedrooms include the Molesworth Room complete with authentic pieces designed by Thomas C. Molesworth, the famous western furniture designer of the early 1900’s; the English Room featuring an intricate Claro Walnut interior; and the Western Room with barnwood décor.

“Sleeping Indian Ranch is a one-of-a-kind residence, which many have called ‘heaven on earth,’ and now families and groups will be able to see why it is so magnificent.” says John Drugan, Director of Operations, Madeline Hotel & Residences.  “We are beyond thrilled to now share all the abundant adventures available at the ranch along with the breathtaking beauty of this pristine wilderness in the San Juan Mountains.”

The ranch is accessible via private air or chauffeured ground transport from either Montrose or Telluride. To book an experience at Sleeping Indian Ranch, please visit sleepingindian.aubergeresorts.com or contact Stacy Mach, Sales Director, Madeline Hotel & Residences at +1 970 429 7641. Reservations are being taken as of today for travel commencing November 19, for this Thanksgiving 2018. Nightly rates available upon request.

The development and ownership team is DiamondHead Land, a joint venture between San Francisco based ProspectHill Group and Hawaii-based hotel executive Pat Fitzgerald, in partnership with a major institutional investor. With plans already underway, the re-launch and re-opening of Mauna Lani is planned for late 2019.

“Among the many distinctive qualities of Mauna Lani are its exceptionally beautiful natural setting and
iconic place in the history of Hawaii,” said Dan Friedkin, Owner and Chairman, Auberge Resorts
Collection. “We are excited to elevate the great heritage of Mauna Lani with the Auberge sense of
intimacy, world-class service, local adventures and a fresh contemporary aesthetic that will allow
guests to experience the best that Hawaii has to offer.”

“Auberge Resorts Collection shares our vision for providing a style of luxury and service that resonates with guests on a personal level,” said Pat Fitzgerald, partner, DiamondHead Land. “Auberge’s experience capturing the unique lifestyle of each destination and setting in a captivating way is what we sought for the transformation of Mauna Lani. We are thrilled to collaborate with
Auberge to create a truly inspiring Hawaiian resort.”

Set on 32 oceanfront acres marked by sacred royal fishing ponds, natural lava plains, lush tropical gardens and bordered by pristine white-sand beaches, Mauna Lani offers the island’s premier location for relaxation, adventure and immersion in the authentic culture and traditions of Hawaii. A great respect for the ancient concept of aloha āina – love of the land – and a deep connection to land, sea and Hawaiian heritage will inform every aspect of the resort’s physical and experiential
    transformation.

Plans are well underway for a hotel renovation in excess of $100 million, which will completely reenvision the guest experience, bring to life the legacy, character and spirit of the Kohala Coast and celebrate the natural and active lifestyle of the Island of Hawaii.

Award-winning interior design firm Meyer Davis is orchestrating a dramatic redesign of the public areas and guest rooms. World-renowned land planning and architecture firm Hart Howerton will lead the complete re-imagining of Mauna Lani’s iconic architecture and oversee the extensive renovation and refurbishment of the resort’s storied gardens and grounds, respecting and preserving the ancient and sacred royal fishing ponds, native plants and the many archeologically important features of the coastal site.

As part of the hotel redesign, the total number of hotel rooms will be reduced, and dramatic oceanfront and ocean-view suites offering panoramic coastal views will be added. The ultra-luxury Mauna Lani Bungalows, with their private pools, butler service and private resort-within-a-resort setting, will be enhanced to provide the ultimate insider getaway.

Auberge’s acclaimed culinary expertise and the Island of Hawaii’s abundance of organic farms will inspire rich and varied dining experiences, from starlit dinners overlooking the ocean, to fun-filled family meals on the beach. The signature waterfront CanoeHouse restaurant, an unrivalled setting for watching the sun slip beyond the horizon, will serve artfully prepared local dishes, hand-crafted cocktails and premium wines. The existing Bay Terrace Restaurant will be transformed and reimagined as a new three-meal restaurant with a lively bar to enjoy daily sunsets.

Anchoring the extensive and lush landscape of the resort will be brand-new adult and family pools and a variety of gathering places for playing, relaxing and indulging in the warm embrace of Hawaii’s magical year-round sunshine. A brand-new infinity-edge Adult Pool and Lounge is being built with private cabanas and scenic views of the royal ponds and the Pacific, and a completely redesigned Family Pool will be active with daily programs centered around sun-soaked fun.

Auberge will introduce its signature Auberge Adventures program, which will take full advantage of the resort’s 32 acres and the Island’s natural playground. Whether together or independently, ‘ohana (families) will enjoy active programs, from a kids club for keiki, to stand-up paddle boarding, outrigger canoe adventuring and after-hours bonfires.

Home to the original IRONMAN Triathlon, the Island of Hawaii offers a fitness culture that’s second to none. Mauna Lani will cater to active guests with a 5,000-square-foot fitness facility that includes an expansive fitness garden, personal trainers and classes tailored to all levels. Complementing the rich menu of fitness programs indoors and out will be a signature Auberge Spa with its commitment to lokahi – harmony and balance – as interpreted by the Hawaiian tradition of healing arts.

Plans call for Mauna Lani to close in October 2018 and reopen in late 2019 as part of Auberge Resorts Collection. To learn more, please visit https://maunalani.aubergeresorts.com/.

Created in partnership with Mill Valley-based Auberge Resorts Collection, one of the premier luxury hotel companies in the world, the Challenge will give one student filmmaker the opportunity to capture the essence of Auberge’s distinctive guest experience in the iconic destination of Napa Valley. “The California Film Institute’s continued mission has always been dedicated to partnering with other businesses within our community,” said Mark Fishkin, Founder/Executive Director, “this unique collaboration with Auberge Resorts Collection gives us the additional exciting opportunity of developing young filmmakers in commercial storytelling and showcasing their unique capabilities and visions.”

“We are very excited about this new partnership with Auberge Resorts Collection, which has provided us the rare opportunity to offer our local young, emerging filmmakers the kind of paid, real-world experience that is so often out of their reach—but so critical to their professional development” added CFI Director of Education Joanne Parsont.

“With Auberge Resorts Collection and our film companies, Imperative Entertainment and 30WEST, we celebrate creativity and impassioned storytelling,” said Dan Friedkin, Owner and Chairman, Auberge Resorts Collection. “We are delighted to have the opportunity for Auberge to work with CFI to bring these two creative industries together and provide students the chance to showcase their artistic talents.”

“Auberge is known for providing exceptional experiences for guests around culinary, arts, adventure and more,” said Craig Reid, President and Chief Executive Officer, Auberge Resorts Collection. “Now, we are excited to partner with CFI to discover the next generation of talented filmmakers. CFI was a natural choice, as they are both an industry leader in supporting film education and produce the prestigious Mill Valley Film Festival which takes place where our Auberge home offices are located.”

Contest submissions will be accepted until 11:59 pm (PST) Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Details on how to enter and complete list of rules can be found at cfieducation.org/challenge. Entrants (and their selected crew members) must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Five finalists will be selected by both CFI and Auberge staff to pitch their concept to a review panel of industry and film professionals, who will then select one winner to be awarded a paid production package, which includes:

    • Equipment
    • Local ground transportation and production expenses
    • Professional commercial video content for the winning student’s reel
    • Online promotion of the winning student’s work on this project through the California Film
      Institute and Auberge Resorts Collection

    Entries must include:

      • A short written treatment (minimum 350/maximum 500 words) detailing the entrant’s creative approach and proposed filmmaking style and which activities, events, or locations the entrant would choose to represent Napa and the three core areas of the Napa Experience, based on the identities of the featured Auberge properties, and how they would showcase these properties in a series of promotional videos.
      • Sample reel of the entrant’s work (minimum 2 minutes)
      • Proof of student status and school affiliation (e.g., copy of student ID)

Each submission will be judged based on its creativity, originality and viability, as well as its perceived value as a marketing resource for the Auberge Resorts Collection properties.

The final spots will run from 10 to 45 seconds each and will be used to promote the Napa experience and the properties online via Auberge Resorts Collection’s website, digital marketing, email campaigns, and social media.
