Our Napa Valley Stories

Calistoga Ranch I Know Napa Valley's Most Picturesque Point

It took a bit of sweat to reach Napa Valley's most picturesque lookout, a summit I wanted to photograph by morning. That's why I hit the under-the-radar private hiking trail near Calistoga Ranch with my husband by 9 a.m. sharp to reach the sleepy hill only locals know. Because I was a guest at Calistoga Ranch, I gained access to an exclusive property tour, ending at the vineyard's tasting room for a custom food and wine pairing menu. It's true what they say - it's all about who you know.

Solage A Walk Above the Clouds

If you’re planning on hiking Oat Hill Mine Trail, don’t let the weather deter you— foggy mornings are the best time for this hike. After stumbling upon this discovery by chance, the colder and mistier the morning in Napa Valley, the faster I grab my hiking shoes.

The best recommendations are by word of mouth. No matter where you are in Napa Valley, you can expect to be surrounded by locals, vintners, and farmers that can tell you what you won't find on trip advisor. Calistoga Ranch I Found Napa Valley's Best Cabernet Sauvignon

I came to Napa Valley to find the region's best Cabernet Sauvignon - a full-bodied varietal with just the right combination of jammy black currant and blackberry notes and tobacco, licorice, vanilla aromas. But I wanted to work for it. Rising to the challenge, Calistoga Ranch heeded the call by turning my red wine dreams into a custom curated bike map. What Cabernet Sauvignon took the top spot? That's an answer you'll have to work for.

Auberge du Soleil Wines of the World

With more than 15,000 bottles on-hand from the hotel’s award-winning wine cellar, wine stewards at Auberge du Soleil have the world at their fingertips. According to Sommelier, Elizabeth Cahill, access to a deep range of global wines makes for intriguing table-side conversations with patrons at the fine-dining Michelin Star Restaurant. "So many of our guests are extremely knowledgeable about wine and they are able to share in great detail their style and varietal preferences. This dialogue is quite helpful in customizing successful wine pairings with each course of their meal. And if they are adventurous we offer side-by-side tastings of a familiar Napa Valley wine with something from another part of the world they may never have heard of before. It’s rewarding to introduce our guests to new wines that instantly become an unexpected favorite."

Calistoga Ranch Work for Your Wine

I've never had a green thumb, but I have an annual tradition of flying across the country to turn my fingers purple. Every fall during Napa Valley's harvest, Juan Luis takes me in as one of his own to show me the ropes of the winemaking process at Calistoga Ranch. Every day, I work outside from sunrise to sunset, pruning vines where honeybees buzz about fields full of fragrant, supple grapes. If I pass Juan Luis' ultimate vintner's test, I even get to take a few bottles home for myself.
