Eat What Do Stilettos and Ice Cream Have in Common?

Arethusa Farm and Dairy is widely-known for its old-fashioned ice cream, but most people are surprised to learn that the farm’s award-winning, creamy goodness all began with the signature stiletto heels that regularly appeared on “Sex and the City.” That’s right— high-end shoe brand Manolo Blahnik’s President and VP, George Malkemus and Tony Yurgaitis, are the farmers behind Arethusa Farm, and have been since 1999. Now you know who to thank for the most delectable dairy products you can imagine.

Even on the coldest day of the year, I’ll happily make a trip to the farm for a large scoop of Arethusa Farm’s hand-packed, old-fashioned ice cream. My flavor of choice? It depends on the season. In fall, I’ll be crossing my fingers for the Pumpkin with Ginger Molasses Cookies flavor, but my year-round favorite has to be Pistachio or Sweet Cream with Chocolate Chips. The only vegetable that could be more exciting than these frozen treats, is those grown at Arethusa Farm’s bountiful gardens.

Arethusa Farm’s gardens provide a robust year-round fruit and vegetable harvest. Taste what the gardens have to offer at Arethusa’s restaurant “al tavolo,” Arethusa’s coffee and pastry shop “a mano,” or Arethusa Garden’s farm stand. Take an even closer look at farm life during “Open Barn Saturdays,” to learn more about the cows that roam there. While at the barn, keep an eye out for the hanging sign, “Each cow in this barn is a lady, please treat her as such.”Stories from Mayflower Inn and Spa
