Go How Hospitality Renewed My Vigor for Accounting and Finance

How did the company capture your interest? 

When my hotel became part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, I knew I wanted to stay for the tremendous growth potential. I seized the chance to enrich the lives of not only our guests but my colleagues—both I can thank for strengthening my dedication and commitment to our hotels.

 

Has your view pre-employment and post-employment changed? If so, in what way?

Prior to working with here, I didn’t know too much about the company other than its fantastic hotels on the West Coast. But after I met the executive team, I fully grasped the Auberge mission to be the best-loved collection of one of a kind luxury properties and experiences, and I’ve been thrilled to be a part it ever since.

 

What was your first job?

My first job was working as a financial analyst, but my first job in the hospitality industry was not until 2013 when I arrived at The Mayflower as the hotel controller. I instantly loved being immersed in the property’s 58 acres of landscaped gardens and woodland. Since my first sunset cocktail on the outdoor patio, I’ve had a renewed love for both accounting and finance and the role these fields play in hospitality.

 

What is a typical day like for you?  

No day is typical but I generally begin with monitoring bank accounts across our three Northeast hotels to make optimal cash flow decisions. Our amazing team works from a central accounting office located in Kennebunk, Maine—that I love for its delicious craft beers and lobster rolls—and together we analyze accounts and manage relationships with the owners of each hotel. We also prepare and present monthly business reviews.

 

What are the most interesting aspects of your job?  

I love engaging with my teammates. The work we do is incredible, and it’s a pleasure to work with them each and every day.

 

What advice would you give other people about succeeding in a luxury resort company?

Hard work and dedication pay off when you see a happy guest walk through the door after they have had an incredible experience at one of our hotels.

 

Fun Fact About Me:   I am a mom of 3 wonderful boys ranging from ages 13 to 21.  We spend our free time in the winter skiing and snowboarding and during the warmer months, we are always on our boat surfing and wakeboarding.Stories from Mayflower Inn and Spa
