The Kanani of Mauna Lani
Ahead of the big day, spend time with our resort’s cultural advisor, who will bestow a spiritual healing water blessing. The day of, the blowing of a conch shell will signify that a kanani, or beautiful, ceremony will take place as Hawaiian music plays before and after. Finally, your guests will devour a traditional Hawaiian luau specially prepared by our chefs.
- Our resort’s kapuna will start your oceanfront ceremony with a traditional Hawaiian Oli chant, which calls upon and invites ancestors to bless the ceremony (Ho`āo).
- The bride will arrive to the shores of Mauna Lani by canoe, as practiced by Hawaiian royalty for generations.
- During the ceremony, you'll exchange and entwine maile leis to create a spiritual connection.
- You and your beloved will share your life forces with one another by honi ihu, touching nose to hose and breathing in and out to exchange your spirits and, in so doing, sharing true aloha.
