The Experience

You may know the Roman ruins of legendary Pompeii, but under-the-radar Akrotiri is one of the most remarkably preserved Minoan towns in Greece. The site is so alluring, it’s even believed to be the source of Plato’s inspiration for the city of Atlantis. Step back in time to uncover what life was like in the Bronze Age before an enormous volcanic eruption destroyed this cultured settlement, home to multi-story stone buildings with vibrant fresco paintings. Follow it up with a visit to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira in Fira, where you can glimpse three original fresco paintings excavated from the site.
