Infinitely Romantic, Unforgettable Memories – Planning Your Destination Wedding, Auberge Style

He popped the question.

You said yes.

Congratulations, you’re engaged! But now what?

As engagement season is upon us, our wedding experts at Auberge decided to help all our newly engaged couples ensure their dream weddings. Where should you get married, you wonder? Destination weddings are becoming increasingly popular for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you’ve always imagined your wedding in a particular vacation spot. Perhaps you don’t think you want a traditional reception hall. Or maybe, you just want to make the planning easier (yes, you heard us right!).

It’s true that just about any wedding, whether at home or at a destination, can turn into a logistical nightmare. However each Auberge Resort has on-site wedding coordinators that do all the exasperating legwork for you, making your destination wedding planning experience much less stressful.

A few basics from our experts:

Pick your perfect spot. The locale you choose determines not only the mood of your wedding (rustic, beachy, mountainside, contemporary) but also the scheduling, travel and budget needed to make it happen. You are putting your all into this wedding; you want this special time to truly reflect the special relationship between you and your fiancé. Your wedding guests will walk away from your special weekend saying, “Wow, that really felt like them.” This requires some research on your part, as it’s more than just the location that makes or breaks your weekend. Keep in mind all the various elements – resort activities, island activities, etc. – that will help set the mood for you and your guests. Are you and your fiancé oenophiles (lovers of wine)? Check out Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil or Calistoga Ranch. Do you love outdoor adventures? Try Hacienda AltaGracia in Costa Rica. Are serene beaches more your thing? Fiji’s Nanuku Resort or Cabo’s Esperanza Resort may be the right fit for you.

Timing is everything. It’s no surprise that the perfect weather in these popular vacation destinations coincides with tourist season – aka more crowds and less availability. Be sure to give yourself enough time to book the season you want in your dream locale. If high season is your top choice, you will need to book your destination 10-12 months in advance, giving everybody a chance to book their flights before prices shoot sky high. Just after high season may ensure lower prices and fewer people, but be careful you aren’t too close to the off-season where many vendors will be shutting down due to the weather.

Dress the part. Does the bride have a specific dress style in mind? Keep this in mind when picking the destination and time of year. Long sleeved and satin might not be too comfortable in Nanuku Resort’s tropical humidity, while sleeveless and lace might not be warm enough for your Hotel Jerome wedding in snowy Aspen.

Let Auberge help you. Our on-site wedding coordinators at every Auberge property are here to make your special day a little bit easier and a lot less stressful.
