A Look Back
Originally built in 1928, the Commodore Perry Estate began as the private home of Edgar “Commodore” Perry, a visionary businessman who helped shape Austin’s early development. Designed in an Italian Renaissance Revival style by architect Henry Bowers Thomson, the estate quickly became a social hub for the city’s elite, known for its elegant gatherings and manicured grounds. Over the decades, the property transitioned through various uses, including time as a Catholic school and educational retreat. In 2020, the Estate reopened – the start of a new era of whimsical glamour.
