After graduating from California State University, Los Angeles with a Master of Arts Degree in Pictorial/Documentary History, Mark started his professional photography career doing stills for the Merv Griffin Show and various television and movie companies. When the show ended in 1986 he set off on a four-month trek across the Pacific and throughout Southeast Asia, China and Japan. He since has visited and photographed in 99 countries. His editorial work has appeared in publications including National Geographic, Conde Nast Traveler, Vanity Fair, LIFE, AFAR, Wallpaper, Forbes Life, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, W Magazine, and The New York Times. Award-winning travel photographer Mark Edward Harris will guide guests throughout this retreat through the elements of earth, air and water: using the necessary techniques to create memorable travel stories. - 6:30am - 9am: Horseback Ride & Portrait Workshop - We will meet in the lobby and then take a rustic ride down to Gracie’s Farm where the real heroes of the American West - our horses - rest. Mark will lead us in a workshop where you’ll learn the best techniques for capturing portraits of both the wranglers and horses. 9am - 11am: Breakfast at the Arena - Enjoy a hearty, western inspired breakfast on our Arena patio looking out on the Uinta Mountains. 11am - 2pm: Open time for self-exploration or relaxation. We suggest interacting with our equine friends during a Natural Horsemanship experience or relaxing in the Edge Spa with a ‘Back In The Saddle’ treatment.
- 2pm - 4pm: Midday Image Processing - Each day, we will gather in our meeting room to present photos from the day’s activities. Mark will guide a critique and provide tips, tricks, and trades. We will have an area where guests can process images. 4pm - 7pm: Late Afternoon Hike/Wine Tasting & Sunset Shoot - We will gather in the lobby for a guided hike up to the Yurt where we will partake in a guided wine tasting, engaging all the senses. There will be instruction on how to capture the different elements of the wine through lighting and various techniques. 7pm - 10pm: Dinner at The Yurt - Following the tasting will be a private dinner and a night sky photoshoot at the Yurt.
- 7am - 10am: Land Exploration Hike/Walk - This morning we will explore and photograph the natural landscape of surrounding mountains, fauna and wildlife. Following the guided walk, we will stop for a hearty breakfast along Alexander Creek. 10am - 1pm: Time for self-exploraiton or spa treatments. We suggest interacting with our equine friends during a Natural Horsemanship experience or relaxing in the Edge Spa with a ‘Back In The Saddle’ treatment. 1pm - 3pm: Mid-day Food Photoshoot + Lunch in Private Dining Room - Chef Galen prepares a tasting of nourishing farm-to-table cuisine. Mark will lead a workshop on food photography. Guests will indulge in the sampling following the shoot.

We will have an area where guests can process images. 5pm - 9pm: Sunset Whiskey Tasting & Dinner at the Tavern - Gathered around in our one room schoolhouse-turned-tavern, a guide will provide instructions on the blind tasting, the assortment of snacks to pair with each glass and an introduction on the history of whiskey. After the tasting we will enjoy a western inspired dinner designed by our Executive Chef Galen Zamarra.
