The Experience

Taste of Auberge, our resident culinary journey, continues with Cadence, New York’s trendy vegan restaurant with Southern soul, led by Chef Shenarri Freeman. Named one of the best new restaurants of 2021 by The New York Times, Cadence will collaborate with AltaGracia’s Executive Chefs Arno Janse van Rensburg and Liezl Odendaal July 7th - July 17th to deliver unique, plant-driven immersions. Guests can also experience a culinary demonstration spotlighting health and sustainability plus holistic wellness workshops.

Meet Cadence and Chef Shenarri Freeman | July 7th - July 17th

Cadence is a plant-based restaurant with Southern soul in New York’s East Village by Overthrow Hospitality, a group reimagining drinking and dining through inclusivity, sustainability and compassion. Led by chef Shenarri Freeman, a 2022 James Beard Award semi finalist for Emerging Chef; her fare is inspired by her Virginia upbringing, vegan ethos, and aims to spotlight Southern cuisine through the lens of health and sustainability. The residency will feature two curated dinners and one lunch, an interactive cooking class with Chef Freeman, two health workshops focused on understanding and implementing plant-based diets for holistic wellness, and three curated dishes developed for the menus at THE WELL and Grano, to be available for 4 weeks post-event.

Founded on farming and community, the brand new Hacienda AltaGracia in Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica is guided by the philosophy of eating close to nature. The resort’s husband-and-wife chef team, Arno Janse van Rensburg and Liezl Odendaal, were joined by Francis Mallmann’s protegée Chef Norberto Piattoni for Taste of Auberge: The Modestos at AltaGracia, a soulful expression of Costa Rican and Argentine culinary rituals, in 2022.
